After a long hiatus from films owing to his incarceration, Sanjay Dutt seems to be all-in on making a Bollywood comeback. Whether it’s his long-delayed film Sarman Munjha opposite Humaima Mallick or now, his ‘comeback’ film Bhoomi, the actor is leaving no stone unturned in making a triumphant return to the industry.

Bhoomi, which has been directed by Omung Kumar of Mary Kom fame, is both fierce and thrilling. It revolves around a father (Sanjay Dutt) and his daughter Bhoomi (Aditi Rao Hydari), who have been torn apart by fate and the circumstances of life. Like any typical Bollywood-esque father, Sanjay chooses the best man for his daughter and dreams of seeing her tying the knot but then things go awry, and that’s where the main action builds up from.

The film, which looks like a cross between a thriller and a tragedy, introduces strong characters and both, Sanjay and Aditi stand their ground as actors in the film. However, do we expect an explosive film like Khalnayak from this? Unlikely.

Fighting for his daughter’s right and going against the law may be a clichéd formula in Bollywood but, it is one that works. Thus, with the actor making a re-entry into the industry, the film, which releases on September 22nd  may have a great chance at making it to the few successes Bollywood has had this year.
