With so many new Bollywood films failing to impress the audiences in the last few years, it seems that the Indian film industry is looking to the past for inspiration! Amongst a number of rehashes going on floors, the latest news suggests that the 1973 Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri classic Abhimaan is also all set to get a millennial treatment.

Directed by Tamil cinematographer-director Rajiv Menon, the filmmaker has finally selected his lead cast by selecting none other than Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan’s son and daughter-in-law, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan.

Like the original film, the couple will essay the role of the singing couple who drift apart when the wife becomes more successful than the husband.

According to sources, the filmmaker has been ‘toying’ for some time with the idea of remaking the Hrishikesh Mukherjee classic.

“For a very long time, Abhishek and Aishwarya have wanted to do another film together, and Abhimaan seems like a perfect vehicle to showcase their shared affections,” the source said.

Aishwarya and Abhishek were last seen together in Mani Ratnam’s Raavan in 2010.
