In celebration of 70 years of Pakistan, we’re pondering over the many style signatures that define us as a nation. Other than our local ralli and truck art, which are seen abundantly in collections by multiple designers, there is so much we can associate with our culture and traditions. While fashion keeps evolving and experimenting, and though the gharara becomes gharara pants, and the shalwar a tulip shalwar, there are a number of classic pieces which remain true to their name and every proud Pakistani should own.

Here are some everyday fashion pieces that will giveaway your Pakistaniat…

Peshawari chappals

This embellished number by Chapter 13 is just one of the many options out there

While every man’s wardrobe needs a smart pair of black peshawaris, there are now so many options available for girls too! Printed, plain, embroidered or even the classic black- you definitely need one to pair with your outfit for Independence Day.

Sherwani

desi

A simple black or white sherwani is an essential for every man

Come on boys! As suave as suits look, they are monotonous and don’t have the classic desi appeal of a simple black sherwani. While boys are quick to label it ‘un-cool’, it’s something your wardrobe is incomplete without. Especially for grooms, take our advice and save the suit for a valima, and opt for a sleek sherwani for your wedding day

Truck art print

desi

It’s always a fun burt of colours with truck art. This funky piece is by Deepak Perwani.

Truck art has been revived and is here to stay! Shoes, bags, jewellery and so much more to choose from, you need at least one item that boasts of this bright and funky craft.

White shalwar kameez

desi

The simplicity of a white shalwar kameez is incomparable.
By Ismail Farid

Not a straight pyjama or churidaar, we’re talking the classic white kameez and shalwar. Again, this goes for men and ladies both. White chikankari is the classiest item a girl’s wardrobe can hold, while the look of a white shalwar kameez is incomparable for guys.

Cotton saaris

desi

Generation’s last Eid collection brought block printed cotton saaris to the rack

This is something we need to see more of! The elegance and charm of a saari is like no other; we’d love to wear this all year round (yes we know that would be impractical) but will save it to make a statement on shaadis.

Churiyan

Not just for Eid, a stack of silver bangles looks good with just about everything! Remember Mahira Khan’s VJ days and her signature stack of silver bangles? #BringChuriyanBack!
