Finally, the most publicised wedding of the year is here. The groom, Prince Harry, member of the British royal family; the bride, Meghan Markle, an American actress tied the know this morning, on 19th May 2018. They both met on a blind date in London that a mutual friend set up and knew little about each other back then.

Harry and Meghan started dating in June 2016 and made their relationship work long distance. The duo admitted that they never went longer than two weeks without seeing each other. How sweet is that! This is the first interracial marriage in the royal family though, and has been a subject of some controversy…okay, a lot of controversy!

From the dress to the guests, here are top ten things you don’t want to miss out on.

1. The Venue

Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding took place in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on 19th May 2018.

2. Going against tradition

The couple’s decision to wed on a Saturday went against tradition, as royal weddings usually take place on a week day. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wed on a Friday and the Queen on a Thursday.

3. The Invites

The invitations followed many years of royal tradition and were made by Barnard Westwood. Using American ink on an English card, each invite has been printed in gold and black.

4. The royal entourage

The couple traveled around Windsor in a horse-drawn carriage, providing an opportunity for members of the public to see them and join in with the celebrations.

5. The Wedding Cake

Pastry chef Claire Ptak, owner of London-based Violet Bakery, created a lemon elderflower cake covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers. It was a cluster of caked as opposed to the

6. Guest list

Amal and George Clooney

Victoria and David Beckham

Around 600 people were invited to the wedding ceremony, whereas around 100,000 people were expected along the processional routes, politicians are excluded from the guest list. The actual number exceeded estimates, it was reported. We spotted the Suits cast and from Bollywood, Priyanka Chopra. Royalty in their own right were everyone’s favourite couple – Amal and George Clooney as well as Victoria and David Beckham.

7. Royal babies to take over the wedding

Prince George and Princess Charlotte lead the bridal party down the aisle. The world gushed.

8. Prince Charles steps in

Prince Charles walks Meghan Markle down the aisle

Prince Charles was gracious enough to walk the bride down the aisle as her own father was suddenly taken ill and could not make it to the ceremony. Rumour has it that the Queen dis-invited him after learning that he had orchestrated paparazzi shots in exchange of huge sums of money.

9. Finally, the dress

And finally, putting all speculation to rest, the bride stepped out in a minimalist Givenchy pure white gown with a 5ft tulle train and a boat neck. While American fans were hoping that she’s wear a dress by an American designer, she chose this one designed by British designer Clare Waight Keller, the artistic director of French fashion house Givenchy. The bride’s five metre-long white silk veil featured floral detail representing all 53 countries of the Commonwealth. The veil was held in place by Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara, loaned to her by the Queen. At the centre of the bandeau is a detachable brooch of 10 brilliant diamonds, which was given to Queen Mary as a wedding present in 1893. The brooch was later made into the tiara in 1932. The headpiece also includes diamonds and platinum in 11 sections. Ms Markle also wore earrings and bracelet made by Cartier. The bride’s bouquet was set with a selection of flowers handpicked by the groom from the Kensington Garden. It included Forget Me Knots, Princess Diana’s favourite flower.
