Summer weddings are upon us and it’s time to take a look at trends in bridalwear that are going to rule the wedding season. Summer weddings are always tricky because of the searing heat in Pakistan. Also, traditional red doesn’t always look good because while you might want to wear bright colours like hot pink and magenta, the heat makes it very difficult to wear deep tones. This year’s Bridal Couture Week brought in a lot of new looks for the summer bride and some really hit the mark for us.

One eye catching show was the opening showcase, which featured Amir Adnan and his wife, Huma Adnan who displayed her brand FnkAsia’s first ever bridal collection at the Bridal Couture Week 2017. The collection, called Ode to Heritage showcased designs for a conventional summer bride but with a twist. Coordinating most of her brides with the same traditional look that Amir Adnan had created for his groom, Huma played with a lot of beige and pastel tones while splashing her ensembles with a pop of colour, which instantly elevated the entire collection.

It’s safe to say that Huma left a lasting impression and her collection really stood out from the rest. Something Haute got in touch with the designer to talk about her work. She explained that she wanted to go back to the very conventional idea of a vintage bride; of how ‘her mother or grandmothers’ dressed on their wedding day. To bring that out Huma worked with embroidery with light metal work in gold and silver in a very traditional manner of chan, heavily embellished borders and colour blocking. The models wore traditional jewellery and had very subtle make up to further enhance their looks.

Our favourite look was the gorgeous and very traditional gharara Nadia Hussain wore. Matching the groom’s look created by Amir Adnan, Nadia wore a light beige colour with rust work on it, romantic old-school jewellery like a teeka, jhoomer and a beautiful dupatta with a heavy border and a sequined spray of motifs all over it. Huma also mentioned that this look was how she would describe a “summer bride”. We’d have to agree!
