In Pakistan we experience a blink of fall, a smidgen of winter, a light whisper of spring and then the full onslaught of heated mayhem summer; otherwise known as lawn season. With hot months outnumbering cold almost eight to four, lawn has become a mainstay in fashion landscape with many designers taking their turn at the daily wear. A new name to the mix is Ayesha Ibrahim. Ayesha has held a steady career in the industry, designing for over two decades with special attention paid to giving traditional ideas a modern twist. Collaborating with ZS Textiles this season, she has produced a luxury lawn collection that works for its customers; it’s stylish, straight forward and lacks the (overdone) frill we’ve come to associate with lawn designs all too often.

The collection itself has the elements that lawn is known for but laid with a sophisticated hand. Florals, geometric patterns, dupattas that play leads instead of being placed as back up roles, bold saturated colors and light pastels are effortlessly mixed to produce a collection that feels like lawn that has grown up. Lawn has always transcended ages, but there are times when finding lawn that is age-appropriate isn’t easy. Many prints tap into the youth market that are (no doubt) fun and whimsical; then there are others that cater exclusively to the more mature women, Ayesha Ibrahim manages to strike a fine balance.

This collection speaks to women who finds themselves on the go; these are women of today who can be found heading to the office, leading the charge on meetings, commanding a room, heading out on errands, running a household and upholding the delicate balance needed to be branded a 21st century icon. All the pieces can answer to one or all of those callings, giving the collection an edge of maturity. The collection also visually embodies the #WearYourConfidence campaign that implores lawn wearers to feel powerful, beautiful and most of all, confident in what they wear. Today’s woman has to wear many hats and she should have ensembles that match.

The colors and prints also tie in seamlessly with the designer’s choice of cuts. Opting out of the oversized looks of late, Ayesha borrows from subtle and sophisticated trends that streamline eastern and western aesthetic with trends that do not look forced: simple cut outs and sheer detailing add to each ensemble’s over all look. Our eyes were particularly drawn to a wraparound top with white cropped culottes that tie together the shirt’s colors with a genius strip of sheer fabric topped by delicate embroidery. The flowery prints are used intelligently and moderately, avoiding the usual trap that lawn falls into: way too much of everything at once. Embroidery is kept to a minimum, used only to highlight the patterns existing on the shirt or pants. In one style, a light grey and white geometric cropped trouser has black embroidery up the seam making it fit for day to night without becoming overbearing.

This is a collection which is versatile as well as trendy; it’ll be appreciated by a fashionable cross section of women from all walks of life. Ayesha Ibrahim’s collection for ZS Textiles hit the market yesterday (May 25) and we predict that lawn lovers will find exactly what they are looking for!
