Co-founder of the charity Water.org and one of the highest grossing Hollywood actors of all time, Matt Damon is immensely pleased with Akshay Kumar after his recent film Toilet – Ek Prem Katha.

Released earlier this month Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, was a commercial success throwing a gorging light at the issue of open defecation in India. Matt Damon’s non-profit organization has also been rooting for the similar issue on a global scale for years now.

Matt Damon personally visited India in the year 2013 to monitor the Water.org projects there. He also told an Indian publication that he lauds Akshay Kumar for granting the issue of open defecation the limelight it has been asking for decades. He shares, “It’s great to have stars like Akshay and films like Toilet – Ek Prem Katha spotlighting the open defecation crisis, as it helps to drive more awareness of not only the issues but also what can be done to tackle this and create change. Our organisation, Water.org, is dedicated to ending open defecation globally.”

He added that he has personally witnessed the detrimental effects of open defecation on the health of the citizens exposed to it and the interminable threat it poses to women and children, their access to uncontaminated safe drinking water and more.

It good to see Bollywood actors like Akshay Kumar taking up roles many people would find odd and unceremonious to highlight serious issues prevalent in his country. We hope (and crave) to see actors from our industry too, to stand up to revolutionize certain under-carpeted issues to bring a good change. We can safely say, there are perhaps too many similar issues at large here which one can also look at.
