After exploring the best Urdu short stories of the maverick – Saadat Hasan Manto – in a drama and film alike, Sarmad Khoosat will again be seen in a theatrical performance — Absolut Manto — alongside powerhouse performers Erfan Khoosat, Sania Saeed and Nimra Bucha. An Olomopolo Media’s home production, the dramatic readings of the critically acclaimed writer are now all set to take center stage in Singapore on April 5.

The traveling performance is going to be a visual representation of some of Manto’s work namely Toba Tek Singh, Har Naam and License. The act will also feature performances on Mohammed Hanif’s article Our Case Against Manto and another series of short stories Siye Hashiye.

According to Olomopolo Media’s official Facebook page, “Arguably the best Urdu short story writer and writer of realistic prose in South Asia, he was a maverick in a society that did not accept the bitter truths. His contribution to Urdu literature makes him a model for 21st century writers for plot construction, bitter realism and whimsical dialogue. Olomopolo Media commits to paying tribute to those who have contributed to the arts and culture of the country and Saadat Hasan Manto is one of them.”

Directed by Kanwal Khoosat, it is scheduled to take place on at the Esplanade Recital Studio, Singapore.
