Bollywood actress Dia Mirza will soon be seen in a web series — Kaafir — which is set in Kashmir. The series chronicles the journey of a young Pakistani mother, who is being held prisoner after she crosses over to India under mysterious circumstances. Dia Mirza plays the prisoner named Kainaaz Akhtar.

According to Indian Express, Dia was recently attending a promotional event where she was asked how she views the current situation between India and Pakistan, and the artistic division between the two nations following Pulwama attack.

“Art always suffers at the hands of fear. But also, art is always ignited and refueled because of fear,” she said adding, “I believe that these prejudices that are being imposed on us not just take us away from our neighbours, they take us away from ourselves.”

The actress also expressed that the existing prejudices are detrimental for hope and love.

“When we deny ourselves the opportunity to communicate and exchange hope and love, we are only expressing to the world how fearful we are,” she said.

Written by Bhavani Iyer and directed by Sonam Nair, Kaafir premieres on ZEE5 on June 15.
