Ahead of the highly anticipated clash between Pakistan and India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 on June 16, sports lovers from both nations are at loggerheads over controversial ads which are being produced in Pakistan and India to promote the match. Tennis star Sania Mirza, who is always caught between any Pakistan-India exchange, also seems to be irked by these commercials.

Sania took to Twitter to express her agitation as she calls them cringeworthy. “It’s only cricket for God sake, and if you think it’s anymore than that then get a grip or get a life!!” she wrote.

The Indian advertisement in question here is made by India’s Star Sports in which a local supporter describes himself as Pakistan’s “abbu” (father), referring to the match falling on Father’s Day and hinting that India is the strong side amongst the two arch rivals.

On the other hand, the Pakistani ad has made a parody on the interrogation of Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman. Here he is being questioned about the match in the said video while he is drinking tea and was asked to return the ‘cup’ in the end.
