A Pakistani documentary titled Armed With Faith has won an Emmy for Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary. Produced by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and directed by Asad Faruqi, the documentary revolves around the lives of Pakistani men of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bomb Disposal Squad.

The 40th edition of the awards were presented Tuesday night at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York. The win was also announced on their Twitter handle with a tweet that read, “The Emmy for Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary goes to the World Channel for Doc World, “Armed With Faith.”

 

 

The two-time Academy Award winner and three-time Emmy Award winner, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, also the co-producer of the documentary, expressed her happiness over the win on Facebook.

“Asad Faruqi came to work with me many many moons ago as a photographer at The Citizens Archive of Pakistan. He was passionate and eager to learn and the best kind of student!” she wrote. “Today he won his first Emmy as a director. I cannot be more proud of who he is and what he’s accomplished,” she gushed on.
