Love it or loathe it, Valentine’s Day is one occasion that always receive mixed responses in Pakistan. Those who have a better half, a girl friend, fiancé or fiancée, are stressed prior to the day, to find out the perfect gift for their loved one. Those who don’t have a partner, either hate it or sleep the whole day (ideally, this time it is even falling on Sunday).

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to make grand plans this year due to restrictions on travel and strict SOPs. But this isn’t an excuse to stick to a box of chocolates, cake and red roses. You can always make them happy by gifting something customized or at least unique to their liking.

We’re playing the Cupid this time and will help you pick a perfect present for your someone special to brighten up their February 14th and the year ahead.

1. If he/she is a chef

If your partner loves to cook, surprise them with a recipe book or journal where they can pen down their favourite recipes. There are also yearly planners and journals available for those who love to travel.

Vogue Aesthetics also have a lot of Valentine options such as glitter plaques, journals, magnets, post cards as well.

2. Gifts to promote self love

If your other half likes grooming tools, give them a luxe leather toiletry bag to help keep everything organized and fill it with all the essentials. You can check Dari Mooch for all natural beard grooming products.

3. Say it out loud!

It is always fun to get a witty card to accompany your present or you can get a customized card as a present as well. Nimrah Hassaan has a variety of cool options to choose from.

4. If your loved one has a sense of sarcasm

If you want your partner to enjoy a hearty laugh each time they look at their gift then Inappropriate Gifting is the best place to find a ‘not-so-appropriate’ mug, candle, card or surprise package.

5. Virtual concert

Who wouldn’t like to listen to the soulful voice of Ali Sethi with their soulmate? Live concerts are not possible this V-Day, but Ali is curating a virtual concert on 14 February for all the love birds. Titled Love Stories, the concert will have ragas and sagas, tales of lust and lore. So book your tickets online.

6. Grow together!

Roses are the traditional favourites on Valentine’s Day but they wither away in a day. It is best to gift some succulents or other house plants to your special someone to add a touch of freshness to their home. Unlike other gifts that will become memories, these plants are reminders of love for a long time.

Dish Gardens Succulent Fairies and Tiny Plants by Zoha have a number of beautiful pots to buy.
