Aamir Khan’s next aims to show empowerment of young girls, once again

If there is ever a film that stands apart with its concept, but also makes for a great watch; it’s one with Aamir Khan. Whether it is his own production or a film he has starred in, it sure feels like Khan’s name and quality content go hand-in-hand.

After bringing us great hits like Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, and Dangal, all of which have an important message behind them, Khan is now producing and acting in Secret Superstar. The musical drama revolves around a young girl, played by Zaira Wasim of Dangal fame, who is essaying the role of an aspiring singer constrained by her father. Aamir Khan has an extended cameo, in yet another unique avatar, and serves as a sort of mentor or idol for the girl, it seems. Zaira goes on to release her music anonymously via a YouTube channel, to high acclaim, keeping all of this a secret from her father.

The story may seem far-fetched, but it should be noted that once again, Khan aims to show the empowerment of young girls, as he did in Dangal. The actor/producer stated in an interview,“We should make more films for children…when our kids were younger, we used to show them foreign animated films which are only for kids. And that is definitely something we should do.”

The film is directed and written by debutante Advait Chandan, and may or may not be a commercial hit, but we are eager to see more from the superstar Khan, himself. Plus, the fact that the topic is related to children and female empowerment, is something we surely need to see more of.

Secret Superstar is scheduled to release on 20th October 2017, meanwhile, you can watch the trailer below:
