Since the last three years, if there’s one track which makes us wait anxiously for its reveal, it’s the Pakistan Super League anthem! Charting the success of the franchise, the song always manages to hit the right spot thanks to the allure and charisma of Ali Zafar, its strongest patron from day one. The PSL anthem for 2018 released last evening and we’ve been listening on the loop. Here’s what we think…

Starring not only the Rockstar but also the past and present stars of Pakistan’s cricket team, ‘Dil Se Jaan Laga De’ delves into the nostalgia behind the country’s favourite pastime and reminisces in its cricket glory.

Paired with a mix of upbeat tunes and poignant lyrics – which are composed and penned by Ali himself – the anthem serves as the perfect amuse bouche before the main event.

“The most important thing is to bring in the spirit.” Ali Zafar told Something Haute when asked about the things he keeps in mind when composing the anthem. “Spirit not just of the game, but the nation that’s going to be following it. Also, it should be hummable, catchy, and the lyrics of the main line should be written so it sticks with people for a while!”

The 3rd HBL PSL tournament is scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates starting 22nd February. The final, we hear, may be in Karachi.
