It seems people in Pakistan will have to wait for Anushka Sharma’s return to the big screen with Pari as the film has been banned by the Central Board of Film Censors in the country.

The news came amidst increasing tensions between the two nations after the ban on Pakistani artistes was reiterated.

According to Nadeem Mandviwalla of Atrium Cinemas, the film was cleared initially by provincial censor boards, however, the CBFC banned it.

Pari was certified by Sindh Board and Punjab Board but did not get clearance from Islamabad Board (CBFC),” Nadeem told Something Haute. “Thus, the film is not being released in Pakistan by its distributor.”

Reportedly, the film contained objectionable sequences where Quranic verses were used along with Hindu chants to ward off evil spirits and that became a reason for the ban.

After the ban, various multiplexes also shared the news on their social media pages and informed that the film will not be screened and tickets already sold can be refunded.

The film was supposed to release on March 2nd.
