Tension sparked between India and Pakistan post-Uri attack resulting in a ban on Pakistani artists working in India. However, artists from both sides of the border including Mahira Khan, Saba Qamar, Sridevi, Manish Malhotra and Arjun Rampal were present at the recently held Masala Awards 2017 which was a night full of love, respect, and recognition.

Speaking of Arjun Rampal, the actor was acknowledged for his 17 years in the industry. He was awarded for his contribution to Indian cinema and in return, he appreciated the efforts of Masala in bringing talent from both sides of the border together in his acceptance speech.

“I have made many Pakistani friends in Dubai and they are like my family now, thanks to platforms like these, which are clear from any political agendas and whose sole agenda is to promote the talent of the two countries. It is a big task and Masala is doing it in the best possible way.”

On this occasion, in an interview with Express Tribune, Arjun shared more of his thoughts on the current political situation and the future of art in the two countries.

“It’s unfortunate what’s happening. I just feel that it’s sad. Artists are messengers of peace and love. Telling stories and entertaining is what they’re meant to do. When you curb that and stop that kind of interaction, it is very heartbreaking. It should not happen. I just hope politics stay away… Pakistani and Indian artists should be able to work together.”

Well, this is not the first time an artist from either side has shown discomfort on the ongoing matter, but this statement made by Arjun only wins him more love and respect! Let’s just hope this helps promote peace, bringing a change.
