The renowned author of books like The Case of Exploding Mangoes, Mohammed Hanif has been bestowed with the third-highest civilian award of Pakistan – the Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his literary work and activism.

Known for his satire and ever-witty remarks, the author is an outspoken critic against governmental and social wrongdoings – apart from penning his best-selling books, which explore topics of injustice, state brutality, and enforced disappearances.

Mohammed Hanif also took to Twitter to acknowledge the news – of course, in his own style.

“Thank you all for your lovely messages. Now can someone please tell me how does one collect it because GoP is a bit coy on the subject,” Mohammed Hanif wrote. “Thrilled at the prospects of meeting fellow winners Fidel and Amanullah. Hope we all get to party with President Mamnun.”

The author’s last book, Our Lady of Alice Bhatti published in 2011.
