13.5.2012: three weeks
Status: 5/100 pounds lost
Myself with accessory designer Mahin Hussein who is talented and weightless. I have cropped 75% of my body out from this picture, mind you.
Okay, so that's not so much, in fact it's not even my target weight loss of two pounds a week, which many of you may consider too slow to begin with. But this time I want to do things patiently and I'm not disappointed. I picked up a 2kg bag of sugar this morning and thought to myself, "Woa, that is substantial!"
In the fist week I lost 4 pounds, which I knew was very superficial and mostly water weight. In week 2 I didn't update my status (which...
I use the word phantom because a male model is usually just an apparition that walks down the runway or lends a shoulder to the model in a shoot but seldom do we relate to him by name or nature.
Best model (male) nominee: Abbas Jafri aka Jesus!
Best Model (male) nominee: Kashif Deewan
Best Model (male) nominee: Waleed Khalid
While one is familiar with Iffy Zafar and Abbas Jafri this year, it took me time to figure out who Waleed Khalid and Kashif Deewan were.
Kashif Deewan (above) has been modeling for many brands, most prominently I feel for Republic. And Waleed Khalid (left), the fourth nominee, is the face of HSY...

Best Model (female) of 2011
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Who's the fairest of them all?
Best Model (female) nominee: Cybil Chowdry
Cybil is one of my favourite models. She's beautiful and tall and she has the poise and grace to take the statue away. The only problem could be her age but then when has that ever been a hindrance before? Let's not drag it in now.
Best Model (female) nominee: Rabia Butt
The younger and gorgeous Rabia Butt poses the biggest competition for Cybil. Rabia is a hot contender and she's won this award twice before. Rabia's biggest competition, however, is Ayyan. Between them, it's anyone's game.
I personally am very fond of Amna Ilyas as a...

The fashion nominees this year are:

Mohsin Ali (designer)
Nadir Feroz & Maha Burney (Styling & Photography)
Zaheer Abbas (Designer)
Best Fashion Photographer
Rizwan ul Haq
Best Hair & Makeup Artist
Mohsin Ali: cute designers with a quirky sense of style are always a welcome addition to the fashion scene.
The headline may be misleading but Hazaran designer Mohsin Ali is surely soon be known for his bow-ties, which remind me of a) The Bow-Tie killer in Problem Child and b) Chuck Bass in Gossip Girl. It's trendy to be in bow-ties and Mohsin has proven himself to be a talented, savvy and trendy young designer. He's still upcoming but with the deals he has struck with Crimson in Lahore and The Designers in Karachi, I have no doubt that he'll be up there very soon.
Mohsin (in another bow tie) sits next to comrade...
Muniba Kamal with the young and talented Wardha Saleem, who has brought her vibrant FPW3 collection to store. Fun, funky fashion for the fearless females out there!
Five labels either launched or upgraded their collections at The Designers yesterday, out of which Wardha Saleem (above) was the first I noticed.
Sania Maskatiya branched out to The Designers too, which makes her a label available at all three major multi label boutiques in Karachi: Labels, Ensemble, Ensemble One and now The Designers as well as her own flagship store. That's what I call spreading the wings and I guess it's no coincidence that birds have become trademark in most of Maskatiya's prints.
On racks was...
The lime green coolant
This outfit has been hanging in my cupboard for over a month and I haven't had the opportunity to wear it simply because it is, well, a tad bit too festive for daily/casual wear and a little too conventional to qualify as fashionable. So it's been hanging there, looking crisp and cool until I decided to pull it out for a very hot evening at The Designers yesterday. The store wasn't hot but with mercury creeping over 40 degrees in Karachi I was melting. Solution: shalwar kameez! And it did the trick. As you can see, Sana Safinaz have given me a broad, airy neckline for this straight shirt and even the sleeves...
Pond's Acne wash is keeping my pores clean and L'Oreal TR-10, though heavy, works as good protection at night.
When it comes to cleaning the hands I'd rather wash with a sanitizer than touch a foreign bar of soap that's been God knows where!
I haven't used soap - the original soap that we buy as a bar - since 1992. Shower gels and scrubs work for bathing and face washes do the trick when it comes to face care. I see bars of soap as germ-breeding, dust catching and bacteria infested coffins of infection. I cringe every time I have to touch one at someone else's house and prefer to disinfect with the fragrant Body Shop Satsuma Hand Cleanse Gel that...
