Ayesha Omar has successfully portrayed one of the most memorable TV characters in recent history: the feisty and uptight Khoobsurat in the commercially successful sitcom, Bulbulay. She also lit up the cinemas as she played the geek-turned-diva in Wajahat Rauf’s Karachi Se Lahore, and is now all geared up to return to the silver screen after a gap of two long years with Amin Iqbal’s first ever cinematic outing, Rehbra.

Labeled as a rom-com with intense romance, hints of satire and action, with soulful music, Rehbra features Omar opposite the Udaari famed actor, Ahsan Khan.

“The plot of the movie is totally different from what I’m seeing these days,” Ayesha revealed as she spoke to SH in an exclusive telephonic conversation. “My character is of a middle class girl who’s passionate, fun, lively and compassionate. She speaks her mind and follows her heart.”

“The reason I took up the project is mainly because of the great screenplay, the character that I was offered and the director, Amin Iqbal as well. He’s somebody who knows what he wants,” she further added while praising the TV-turned-film director. “I’m also really looking forward to working with Ahsan, who happens to be an old friend. I’ve travelled a lot with him and I know that he’s got fantastic energy.”

The film that is penned down by Assad Ali Shah and Shakeel Chohan, and produced by Saira Afzal, has an ensemble star cast. Apart from the extremely good-looking leads, debutant Sarish Khan and seasoned actors, Sohail Sameer, Hina Bayat and Ghulam Mohiuddin will be seen essaying supporting characters.

The film will go on floors soon and is slated to release sometime next year. Until then, Ayesha is busy shooting for her forthcoming health show and a celebrity talk show, both of which will be hosted by the actress and will be available via digital media.

“My health show will basically consist of 3-minute web-isodes (online episodes). It’s about maintaining a healthy lifestyle. What changes you can make to make your body healthier, physical and dietary changes, how you can start eating better. And also how you can become a little more mindful also, mainly by doing yoga,” she revealed. “My second show is all about celebrities. I’ll be interviewing a few exciting personalities one on one and I’m sure that will be cool too.”

Interestingly, Omar has also been roped in to make a few cameo appearances in upcoming feature films, two to be precise, including a track in the highly anticipated Urwa Hocane, Bilal Ashraf and Ali Azmat starrer, Jhol. “It’s a cute, romantic, funny number featuring Ali and I. It’s a guest appearance and not an item song,” she clarified.

Here’s wishing that we get to see more and more of Ayesha Omar on screen, and hoping that she does not disappoint.
