New dramas for the last quarter of 2021 are scheduled to air very soon, and Bebasi is one of them that viewers are looking forward to. With fresh on-screen pairings, the drama stars Ali Rehman Khan, Alizeh Shah, Khushhal Khan, Anoushay Abbasi and Nausheen Shah.
Four teasers of the drama have been released so far by HUM TV and by the looks of it, the story seems to be about a helpless and feeble young girl Ifrah (played by Alizeh Shah) who has an admirer (played by Khushhal Khan). We are not sure yet if they were friends or just acquaintances but Khushhal’s character appears to be erratic and obsessed with Ifrah, so much so that he claims to snatch her from her future life partner, played by Ali Rehman.
Anoushay Abbasi is playing Nadia, a typical character of a cousin/a close friend/ colleague who likes the hero, and his favoured by the hero’s sister but is unable to marry him. Nausheen Shah is the stern sister of Ali Rehman Khan. It is yet to be seen if Ifrah’s relationship with Ali Rehman’s character has any grounds or it is another random act of a selfless hero to save a damsel, as seen in multiple dramas nowadays. Unfortunately, the male lead seems close to both the girls here as well.
While we don’t know the context of the dialogues in teasers, it is still high time for better phrases and shun ideas like “larki ka khandani hona bohat zaruri ha” because everyone knows there are no set parameters of being “khandani“. There is another disturbing line: “Tumhari jesi awara larkiyan dil behlanay k liye hoti hein… ghar basanay k liye nahi”. Let’s hope that we get to see female characters with some agency in Pakistani dramas, as well as a proper portrayal of a stalker, though the chances are few and far between.
