Box Office Review: Bollywood dominates as dearth of local film continues

With a number of Bollywood films making their way into the Pakistan cinema circuit, the local box office has proven that content is king.

With all Pakistani films off from the silver screen listings, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety has reigned supreme since the last four weeks with an overall collection of above PKR 5.5 Crores according independent box office websites and sources.

Apart from the highly successful film starring Karthik Aryan of Pyaar Ka Punchnama fame, movies like Ajay Devgn’s Raid, Dil Junglee, and 3 Storeys have also released in cinemas, albeit to poor collections of less than PKR 1 Crore each.

On the other hand, Black Panther still has a strong grasp on the market even after a month of its release.

Amidst a competitive Bollywood and global market, no Pakistani film has managed to make its mark in the last few weeks as both cinemagoers and critics await the highly-anticipated film, Cake to release on March 30th.

However, one still has to wait and see how the coming weeks fare for Cake as Bollywood bigwigs like Rani Mukerji are also all set to release films like Hichki over the coming weekend.
