Despite large efforts by the Pakistani film industry to stay afloat following Eid-ul-Fitr releases, the box office remains dominated by anything but local films.

According to independent box office websites and sources, Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju and Salman Khan’s Race 3 have seen a continuous gargantuan response at the box office, rendering Pakistani films useless in front of them.

While the Rajkumar Hirani biopic has managed to break records and collect more than PKR 30 Crore in its 2 weeks (and counting), Race 3 – despite massive negative critique – continues to go on house-full in Pakistani cinemas with a collection of PKR 10 Crore in its 3 week run.

Apart from Bollywood’s domination at the multiplexes, Hollywood too seems to have a strong hold on the audiences at the moment. Both Jurassic World and the recently released Ant-Man and the Wasp currently hold a strong occupancy and screen allocation at cinemas throughout Pakistan. Due to this, the former has managed to garner more than PKR 15 Crore, while the latter has collected PKR 2 Crore in less than a week.

On the flipside of it all, only 7 Din Mohabbat In has managed to desperately hold onto one or two shows a day at various multiplexes in Pakistan, signaling a distressful run at the box office overall.

Will the upcoming set of releases on Eid-Ul-Azha bring any respite to the local industry? Time shall tell…
