Dysfunctional families are a reality of modern-day life and hence, for many, the perfect topic for a film. Thus, when after countless promotions and activities, the trailer for Cake released, all it reminded us was how even the worst of sibling rivalries can turn out to be the best of visual spectacles.

Revealing the inflamed bond between Aamina Sheikh [Zareen] and Sanam Saeed [Zara], the trailer hints at lost opportunities, repressed anger, and a plethora of issues remaining to be resolved – all the while keeping the varnish on the facade of a ‘perfect family,’ fresh.

Apart from the sister act, the trailer also shows us a few bits and pieces of the ‘heroes’ of the film – Adnan Malik [Romeo], and cameos by Mikaal Zulfiqar and Faris Khalid, who surprisingly don’t have much to say as far as the trailer is concerned.

Having said that, despite countless replays of the trailer, we still feel it’s quite obscure in terms of what the story really is about. We think it hints at the troubled sibling rivalry between Sanam – who lives abroad, and Aamina – who’s left behind to take care of her family, but only time will tell.

Directed and penned by Asim Abbasi, Cake stars Aamina Sheikh, Sanam Saeed and Adnan Malik in lead roles. The film is all set to release on March 30th.
