No doubt the past year has been a great one for our music industry and now Cornetto PopRock has also joined the ranks of Coke Studio and Nescafe Basement by hosting its own show! With its debut edition proven to be quite a success, CPR is now gearing up for season two.

So a late Saturday afternoon found us at the Nabila salon, where Komal Rizvi, Anoushay Ashraf and Momina Mustehsan, were getting dolled up for the Cornetto PopRock Season 2 launch event. A couple of hours later we arrived at the venue, a studio deep within the realms of a dark Korangi area, for the exclusive event where we were to find out the line up for this season as well as meet the artists. But alas we were too early (read: ON TIME) and spent the next two-and-a-half hours loitering around the mosquito-infested setup. While the ambiance, stage, setting and even snacks were above par, a couple of hundred Mortein coils were desperately needed!

When the guests and celebs finally arrived, the ambiance transformed into a star-studded night with a limited and exclusive guest list. We saw all the artists, except Quratulain Baloch, who are lined up for this season present at the event: Ali Azmat, Meesha Shafi, Komal Rizvi (who thankfully had traded in her sequinned green number, from the Karachi Kings launch, for a sleeker outfit!), Qurram Hussain, and Momina Mustehsan. Similar to last year, CPR will be releasing six music videos and holding three live concerts, in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad respectively.

Last year’s ‘Desan Da Raja’ by Komal Rizvi and Qurram Hussain, won a Google award for being the fourth most watched video in Pakistan via YouTube, and we are excited to see what this season brings us. We already know that Ayesha Omar, Hasan Rizvi and Qurram are releasing a dance number soon, and we’re eager to see how catchy it will be.

While everyone claimed that Ali Azmat’s short performance at the end of the show was the highlight of the night, we sadly missed it. So the highlight for us was when we asked Azmat to pose for a photograph and he asked us “Do you have money to pay me for that?” with a cheeky grin, followed by a hearty laugh!
