Fashion week season is in full swing worldwide, and we too are set to follow suit. The Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC) brings out two of the most prestigious fashion weeks in Pakistan each year, one for bridals and one for Spring/Summer. Scheduled to take place from 9th-11th March, PFDC Pakistan Sunsilk Fashion Week – that sets trends in ready to wear – will be held in Lahore, as always.

The lineup for the three day show has just been revealed, and like last year, ‘fashion week’ has been cut down to three days instead of the initial four, which could mean either of two things: 1) the fashion industry isn’t growing or 2) designers have branched out onto other platforms, including solo outings. In either case, it looks like it needs a rethink, especially since so many of PSFW’s loyalists are not participating anymore.

This year’s lineup includes Sania Maskatiya, Nida Azwer, Misha Lakhani, Fahad Hussayn, Saira Shakira, Arjumand Bano, Reama Malik (GOLD), Saira Rizwan, Shiza Hassan, Shireen Hassan, Mona Imran and Zonia Anwaar. For menswear there is the renown Republic, Rici Melion and Rouge. HSY will be presenting the grand finale, while young designers Hira Ali and Hussain Rehar will be making debuts. Textile brands showing this year include Image, So Kamal, Rang Rasiya and Khas.  The customary Bank Alfalah Bank Rising Talent show has been replaced by a PEL Craft/Design show, which is a new addition to the showcase.

There are too many names missing from the lineup this year –  Elan, Generation, Ali Xeeshan, Nomi Ansari and Sana Safinaz for starters, with Khaadi, Sara Shahid (Sublime), Karma by Maheen Kardar and Mahgul trailing behind. Thankfully we do have regulars like Sania Maskatiya, Misha Lakhani and Nida Azwer to hold fort. From the budding designers, we are particularly looking forward to Hussain Rehar’s showcase, an emerging designer who has made a noticeable impact in a short time, as well as Hira Ali’s. But will they prove to be enough?

Nabila and her talented team will be spinning their magic backstage and the show is being directed by Sadia Siddiqui of Mustang Productions, who took charge of show direction last year. Following the format introduced last year, the shows will take place in two separate halls, guaranteeing some.

Stay tuned for our complete coverage of fashion week, this weekend!
