Streaming platforms have become massively popular these days, providing us with TV series and films of every genre for entertainment as well as information. Most of us use these portals to watch top-rated and trending movies, but in case you’re looking for an interesting documentary about a local legend, Netflix has it covered as well.

A documentary about Pakistan’s first and only Nobel Laureate in Science, Dr Abdus Salam will be available on Netflix from October 1st. Titled Salam – The First ****** Nobel Laureate, the feature length documentary is about the extraordinary life of the charismatic Pakistani physicist in all its color, vitality and tragedy. Dr Abdus Salam won the Nobel prize in 1979 and became the very first Pakistani to achieve this distinction, and only the fourth from the subcontinent.

 

 

Directed by Brooklyn based film director, Anand Kamalakar and produced under the banner of Kailoola Productions, “it is the story of a man who traversed two worlds with ease: one of science and religion, modernity and tradition, war and peace and obscurity and celebrity,” as reported on its official website.

Talking about the film Oscar-winning actor, Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Green Book) said, “[It is] a vital piece of our history. I highly recommend this wonderful documentary.” Another Pakistan Nobel Laureate, Malala Yousafzai said that “a film on him is very timely. His story of brilliance needs to be told and amplified.”

The film has already been showcased at various international film festivals, including DFW South Asian Film Festival, South Asia Human Rights Festival, South Asian International Film Festival, South Asian Film Festival of Montreal and many others. It also received accolades in the ‘Audience Choice’ category at many of these fests.
