With Coke Studio 11 all set to start from August 10, its line-up announcement with Hum Dekhenge revealed some faces that were quite unexpected to be a part of the show. One such anomaly was TV’s favourite heartthrob, Ahad Raza Mir. What exactly is he doing in the show? Well, we finally know.

According to a recent interview given by CS 11 co-producer Zohaib Kazi to Instep, the actor was selected after the producer saw a snippet of him performing on Instagram.

“Okay, so Vogue’s 73 Questions is this one-take video series. It is really good,” Zohaib Kazi told Instep. “We saw something akin to it on Instagram. Not exactly like it but we saw Ahad Raza Mir singing a little and playing the guitar on Instagram. When we saw that, we thought he had something. To be able to play right while singing is an art in itself. We decided we should talk to him.”

Previously, actors such as Sanam Saeed, Ayesha Omar, and Mehwish Hayat have also been a part of Coke Studio. However, according to the producers of the show, Ahad’s journey has been different.

“How many musicians have gone from music to dramas,” laughs Hamza. “This is the opposite. He [Ahad] has done musicals in theatre, outside Pakistan.”

Things weren’t easy for Ahad still, however, as he was made to go through a rigorous audition.

“When he came in, and this is an honest thing on his part, he said to listen to him before selecting him,” Zohaib revealed. “He came back after having rehearsed a song and there was a proper audition.”

Will TV’s Dr. Asfi be able to weave some magic into his music debut? We will just have to wait and see…
