With Mawra Hocane making her comeback to the small screen after a successful stint in Bollywood, Sammi is already being hailed as a breath of fresh air over the ever-ailing redundancy of Pakistani dramas even before it airs tonight. However, what exactly makes the show an Haute choice? The leading lady tells us herself with 5 things we should look forward to in Sammi!

Mawra Hocane as Sammi

While we all know that Mawra Hocane has managed to remain one of the few actresses whose numerous accolades have not gone to her head, her roles have gotten bigger and better each passing moment and the eponymous Sammi is no exception.

According to the actress herself, we’re going to see a completely different avatar, but with somewhat of Hocane’s own reflection in it.

“Sammi is a naive and coy girl for whom the entire world is her own house or her village at most. But certain trials that she goes through in her life lead to a big transition in her. I do relate to her, in the sense that situations in her life make her realize she is stronger than she thinks she is and I have experienced this myself too,” the actress told us.

Breaking Stereotypes

Almost all upcoming dramas seem to be made with an aim to break stereotypes, but how many actually do? Well, if Sammi’s narrative is anything to go by, Wani is one subject that it wants to tackle. However, Hocane feels the biggest stereotype that’s been broken is her return to the small screen.

“Actors think once they’ve done movies they shouldn’t return to television so by doing Sammi I would be breaking a stereotype; that’s one. As far as Sammi the drama and Sammi the character are concerned, you’d have to wait and watch!” Hocane told Something Haute.

The on-screen pair(s)

Sammi also holds a special place, not just because of its narrative, but also because Hocane is going to be seen paired with three different actors! That’s right, though it’s a women-driven story, the show is set to introduce fresh faces to the industry.

“I’m paired with three different boys at different stages of the script. All three of them are extremely talented and interestingly, it’s the first time I’m getting to work with male leads that are my age so it was fun. There’s an element of freshness brought about by Zain Mirza, Ahad Raza Mir and of course Bilal Khan because they are debutants. It may be a female-driven script but they add so much value; I can’t wait for the audience to watch it!” The actress commented.

The Experience

More often than not, dawn to dusk shoots end up making artists hate their lifestyles. But if the team is actually good and the story matters more than ratings, it ends up being a fulfilling experience, which even the audience can see translated into the show. In Sammi’s case, this is one thing that is being promised.

“The entire experience, which started with the process of unlearning everything I knew to learning everything I could in order to play such a traditional character, to shooting across the country for Sammi, it gave me the chance to interact with a large number of fans. It made me feel so loved and always fills me with gratitude, making me want to work harder,” the actress exclaimed.

The solution

Much like breaking stereotypes, not many shows end up actually suggesting a resolution to problems being shown, or even develop a minute solution. However, according to Mawra, Sammi the character and the show both aim to show steps to fix things through their portrayal of the problem.

“It’s a social cause based show which talks about multiple taboos and how we can fix them or at least take the first step towards their resolution, and Sammi doesn’t give up even in the face of the toughest of challenges!” the actress reiterated.
