This weekend, in a star-studded press conference in Karachi, veteran actor Faisal Quraishi and veteran director Sohail Javed announced their first film together. Titled Sorry, the film – purely a love story – is Sohail’s debut feature film and Faisal’s first film in over a decade. The cast, other than featuring Faisal himself, includes Aamina Sheikh, Zahid Ahmed and Sonya Hussyn in lead roles. At the press conference it was shared that Asma Nabeel was co-writing the script with Sohail Javed while the soundtrack would have seven songs, produced by Abbas Ali Khan.  With Sohail Javed’s history with music videos, the film is expected to have a strong soundtrack.

Faisal Quraishi and Sohail Javed obviously enjoy a great relationship with the TV industry as almost everyone who’s anyone turned up in support of the film. One spotted Humayun Saeed, Fahad Mustafa, Nabeel Qureshi, Nadeem Baig (director), Nadeem Baig (actor), Samina Peerzada, Adnan Siddiqui, Mohib Mirza, Aijazz Aslam, Bilal Maqsood, Abbas Ali Khan, Javed Sheikh, Abdullah Kadwani, Wajahat Rauf … yep, it was a bit of a boys club. And you can expect boys to crack jokes and keep things light.

“I want to ask Sohail Javed why he didn’t cast Humayun and me in his film,” Fahad Mustafa raised his hand to ask the panel, when the floor was opened to the media for questions. Sohail Javed was answering the question with equal jest when Aamina Sheikh humorously interjected, “He will cast you two in an item number!”

Fahad Mustafa obviously had something to add to that when we spoke later.

“Yes, we’d happily do an item number for Faisal’s film but I think it’s time the directors were cast in an item number. Let’s make Nabeel and Nadeem do an item number for a change,” he said to Nabeel.

Hoping for some additional humour to the question, I also asked Faisal Quraishi which of the two – Fahad or Humayun – he’d think made a better ‘item boy’. Here’s what he had to say…
