The upcoming year is looking great for Pakistani cinema as more than a dozen films are scheduled for a 2020 release. Though we are skeptical about a few, we are also quite certain that Nabeel Qureshi and Fizza Ali Meerza may fulfill their promise with the two films they have announced, Quaid e Azam Zindabad and Fatman. Here’s another good news; the main lead of Fatman has been finalised and Ahmed Ali Butt has been roped in for the titular character.

The actor took to Instagram to share that he has finally signed his first film as the main lead.

“AlhumdulilAllah it’s official. My next film and my first as a lead with these crazy people Nabeel Qureshi Fizza Ali Meerza Filmwala Pictures FATMAN. Looking forward to make a great film with these great creative filmmakers and hope you’ll all love it as much as I love the script… Inshallah see you next year,” Ahmed wrote along with a picture with the dynamic duo.

Talking exclusively to Something Haute, Ahmed shared what attracted him to the script instantly.

“It was the name, Fatman. It’s a family entertainer that deals with the subject of body shaming; something we as a society take very lightly,” he said.

“The film is full of emotions and family relationships and how a person who has been fat deals with certain circumstances in his life, how being fat effects you and things around you. It is a powerful script and it is going to be a fun-filled film. You can say it’s a different take on superheroes,” the actor added.

In an earlier conversation, Fizza and Nabeel revealed that Fatman will go on floors after Quaid e Azam Zindabad is shot and will be scheduled for release in the last quarter of 2020, possibly in December.

“The film will address the issue of body shaming that we all face today,” Fizza said, hinting on the story line. “It is a story revolving around the relationship between a man and his son.”

“It is a superhero film with a difference,” Nabeel added. “We may think of superheroes as over macho men solving world problems with their brute force but Fatman will reveal how there’s a superhero in all of us. Appearances can be deceiving and men and women should not be judged, let alone bullied, because of their looks.”

Though Ahmed remained tight-lipped about the rest of the cast, we can expect a song from him in the film.

“I normally do a song in my films so may be… let’s see,” the actor left us wondering.

In 2020, the versatile actor is attempting many firsts including his first drama as lead opposite Iqra Aziz, Jhooti and now Fatman. We have previously seen Ahmed in comic characters and it will be great to see him break stereotypes by taking on lead roles. So far the dad’s role has been finalized and now we are eager to find out who will play Ahmed’s son in the film.
