Rishi Kapoor’s Twitter feed is a constant source of surprise and entertainment, simply because the veteran actor seldom holds back from expressing how he feels. This Sunday he surprised everyone by responding to a Tweet posted by Omar Abdullah.

“I am 65 years old and I want to see Pakistan before I die. I want my children to see their roots. Bas karva dijiye (Please make it happen),” Rishi tweeted on Sunday.

On Saturday, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah said the part of Kashmir held by Islamabad will remain with Pakistan and this was not going to change.

Rishi wrote, “Abdullahji, Salaam! Totally agree with you, Sir. Jammu and Kashmir is ours and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is theirs. This is the only way we can solve our problem. Accept it.”

Now you may agree or disagree with Rishi Kapoor’s politics as well as his opinions on Kashmir – Twitter did generate heated opinions on his posts – but you have to admit that his Tweet did come as a surprise. And of course, it did provoke the wrath of his critics, who accused him of being pro-Pakistan and pro-Muslim.

Rishi Kapoor actually has a house in Peshawar, Pakistan. It was constructed between 1918 and 1922 by Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor, Prithviraj Kapoor’s father. The Kapoors shifted to India after the 1947 partition but are one of many Bollywood actors, including Dilip Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan, to have roots in Pakistan.
