Fashion Pakistan Week Winter/Festive 17, beginning in Karachi this week, intends to up the ante and go the international route this time. For starters, Shamaeel Ansari’s show is being held outside the main show area, exclusively on a separate day. This amps up the look and feel of the couture show, which promises curated installations as well as a runway presentation; we’re expecting a whole new experience!

The couturier is known for her trousseau and couture wear, which has a distinct signature style and can always be identified from afar. Shamaeel’s designs are heavily influenced by cultures of the East, having previously shown collections inspired by Suzani, Venetian and Japanese heritage. The designer never goes the simple way, and for her it works perfectly as she brings in layers and experiments with silhouettes to make a grand presentation each time.

Shamaeel Ansari over the years: (L-R) FPW 2012 – FPW 2013 – PLBW 2015

This time around, Shamaeel’s showcase will include four curated collections as part of installations. The designer termed her presentation as “a stream of consciousness”, where an idea materializes into an ensemble. Her runway collection, The Blue Tulip, encapsulates the vibrancy of Caucasian needlework and draws inspiration from the Ottoman Empire. We’re expecting loads of vintage glamour and antique colour-ways in signature Shamaeel Ansari aesthetic!

A sneak peek of what to expect from ‘The Blue Tulip’

The Blue Tulip seems like a promising showcase and adds to our list of collections we’re anticipating at fashion week. We have been saying this for years that couture shows are not like ready to wear shows; couture shows must be an elevated experience that allows the designer to create a mood-board for its viewers to experience and enjoy. It seems we’re getting there, thanks to Shamaeel’s The Blue Tulip.
