After a pretty stable start on day one, day two of Fashion Pakistan Week (FPW) SS’18 brought around its fair share of fashionable fixes. A bit of resort wear, pret and formals all came together well, showing us what the upcoming season is all about; tassels, draped pants and statement silhouettes!

While Saira Shakira’s formals remained one of the more memorable, others tended to play it far too safe. Here’s what we loved, or didn’t…

Saira Shakira

After having impressed us at PSFW last month, Saira Shakira delved into their signature formal wear for Spring Summer with soft summery hues to keep one cool while glammed up.

Strengths: The designer duo did not simply rely on embellishments to make their formals stand out, but gave each one a unique silhouette or design element. The draped saari with an embellished jacket was a sure winner, while other features that caught the eye were the fitted pants layered with net.

Weaknesses: One wishes to see more minimal fashion when it comes to Spring/Summer, be it pret or luxury wear.

Deepak Perwani

The designer brought out a savy resort collection of monochromes, with a pop of print and colour here and there. It was sleek and wearable, plus at par with the trends for the season.

Strengths: The pants and lowers featured some smart layering and drapes, while keeping to the free-flowing silhouettes that are in this season.

Weaknesses: It was all quite akin to what one has seen far too often by high-street brands.

Rozina Munib

A glitzy ‘Glamorama’ was brought out with all things sparkly! Ball gowns, tasseled dresses, dramatic drapes and more were abundant on the runway.

Strengths: A smart white ruffled top paired with embellished jeans looked pretty trendy, wish there was more of that!

Weaknesses: Some of the ensembles tended to be over-designed, with statement sleeves, heavy tassels and embellished fabric all rolled out in one.

Boheme by Kanwal

fpw

‘Katputhli Tamasha’ made for an extremely strong debut by Boheme, with a fun contemporary spin on ethnic clothing. Ajrak print saaris, mirror-worked capes and so much more blended together beautifully.

Strengths: The contemporary touch combined with Pakistan’s traditional craft made each piece unique while being totally wearable.

Weaknesses: The pre-prepared fabric is easily available at stores, and it seems that the designer simply stitched it to perfection with contemporary cuts.

Nauman Arfeen

fpw

Nauman Arfeen celebrated medalists from the Special Olympics with this collection, making it another showcase that had high-power energy.

Strengths: The monochrome prints gave menswear a smart edge, showing how prints can be adapted for men too. The androgynous outfits on Sadaf Kanwal and Rabia Butt were uber cool too!

Weaknesses: Some of the menswear outfits featured funny drapes or silhouettes, making the ensembles look quite bizarre.

Natasha Kamal

The designer is known for her minimal yet funky designs, and our expectations were high but we were left disappointed.

Strengths: The ensembles were all wearable, and one can see them sell off the rack as minimal fashion for Spring/Summer.

Weaknesses: The designer played it too safe, which is not how she usually does it! We expected more statement pieces from her.

Ayesha Farook Hashwani

fpw

AFH brought out a resort collection featuring lots of black and sunny yellows. It did feel very Versace inspired, complete with the Baroque prints and grandeur element.

Strengths: One could see the experimental silhouettes, keeping things edgy and fun.

Weaknesses: Another collection that had too much happening, making the fashion unpractical and overdone.
