“FPW has a stellar lineup this season,” are words that have been going around and that made us look forward to the shows eagerly. At least some of them rose to expectations , and I’ve taken the time out to post my thoughts on them. The rest, sadly, didn’t live up to their names.

Designer: Shehla Chatoor

This is the first time ShehlaChatoor, celebrating 20 years in the fashion industry, put bridals on the runway and it wasn’t an easy task for the designer to go from luxury/pret that she designs so effortlessly (her strength being the ease with which she creates western wear out of her signature prints) to ornate wedding wear. But wedding wear has been the USP of Shehla’s business all these years and she really had nothing to worry about. The aesthetic was flawless, with intricate hand-embroidered and crafted ensembles in a rich spectrum of golds and greens. The dhoti shalwars were velvet blousons were my favourite pieces from the collection and I can see these emerging as very strong trends.

The upbeat and fast pace of pret is undeniably attractive and that’s what added a sudden punch to the show: Sania’s quick and edgy solids injected much needed energy to an overall lethargic evening. It was a relief to see the designer turning away from her strength – prints – and still managing to make the collection distinctive. I’m anticipating her next full collection now!

Designer: Sana Safinaz

You had to fall in love with the rich, colourful velvet trousers – and we did! Sana Safinaz tuned into their wild side with a printed palette featuring the wild, jungle life. The treatment was formal, making the collection ideal for women not wanting to go down the tradition route. Thankfully there were no bridals, just fabulous Winter/Festive clothes that could be adapted to parties or weddings this winter. Stunning!
