Good news for fans who got excited after seeing Gohar Rasheed in the trailer of The Legend of Maula Jatt. You don’t have to wait till Eid ul Fitr to get to see him performing as Gohar is all set to come in a telefilm titled Laal which will be screened next month.

In an exclusive conversation with Something Haute, Gohar spilled some beans about how he is excited to work in such a different project. “Laal revolves around different emotions and sentiments. You will get to see patriotism, friendship, sacrifice and valour all in one story. The premise of the story is Pakistan Navy. What we are trying to show is how the people related to the naval force make life-altering choices and sacrifices,” Gohar said.

“The writer Umera Ahmed has an interesting and unique take on the storyline and she has penned each character and dialogue with compassion,” he added.

Talking about the cast of the telefilm, Gohar shared that it comprises some of the finest actors in the industry. “Laal is a high-profile project with a huge budget; we have names like Kubra Khan, Bilal Abbas Khan, Saleem Mairaj, Adnan Jaffar and Rashid Naz in the cast. I am fond of each one of them and super excited to collaborate on a project with these fellow actors. All of us are portraying unusual characters in Laal.”

Gohar is playing a Baloch in the telefilm. “The name of my character is Yousuf. It is an intense and sensitive character. Currently I am in the process of learning the balochi dialect. It is a layered character and it is tricky to touch upon all the right emotions required for playing this role,” he said.

Gohar is collaborating with director Haseeb Hasan after Mann Mayal, in which his performance was applauded. “Umera Ahmed and Haseeb Hasan together are a brilliant combo. Haseeb approached his scripts in an unconventional manner and it is a welcoming challenge to match his game,” he added.

Is there audience for traditional telefilms, especially after digital content gaining popularity in Pakistan?

Gohar believes that good content is the king. “Viewers only get attracted to good content. There has been, is and will always be a market and audience for good stories. Laal is something that people will love and like. It is an unconventional tale with not the usual cast you get to see in telefilms. I feel the appetite for good narrative and performance beats the medium in which it is shown, be it a drama, film, telefilm or web series,” he said.

Laal is scheduled to air on 23rd March.
