There was a time where superhero films really had us going. The Avengers, for instance, was a superhero flick with an incredible ensemble star cast and we couldn’t get enough of it. But then somewhere along the way, superhero films became the only thing that our cinemas would play and we reached a level of saturation that made us hate alien apocalypses with a vengeance (Can somebody stop Michael Bay from making more Transformer films PLEASE?). Nowadays, everyone is a superhero. And a very typical one too. They’re all super-fit, super-cocky and super-cliched.

However, we can safely say that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 isn’t one of those typical superhero films and we’re very sure that all the very fashionable people who attended the premiere in Karachi would agree with us. Last weekend, GotG.2 was premiered at Nueplex and it attracted a bevy of some of our most recognizable faces in fashion. In attendance were Wardha Saleem along with her brother Nubain Ali, Tariq Amin and Atiya Khan. We also saw Deepak Perwani, Zaheer Abbas, Adnan Pardesy and Mohsin Tawasuli. Amna Ilyas and Mantaha Maqsood could be seen taking selfies and sipping on the Mountain Dew and Mirinda slushies, a new frozen beverage introduced by Pepsi, who was hosting the event. And we also saw Nadia Hussain making her way into the theatre once the film had begun.

And that was our most favourite part of the premiere. Unlike the premieres for Pakistani films that have no fixed starting time, GotG.2 began and ended on time. Also, the film was extremely fun to watch. While GotG.2 runs for 2 hours and 18 minutes, one doesn’t even stop to notice how much time has gone by because the film is extremely entertaining and engaging.

Starring our new favourite actor, Chris Pratt alongside Zoe Saldana, Dave Batista, Michael Rooker and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, GotG.2 is one of the funniest superhero films around with actual laugh-out-loud moments. The relationships between all the characters are well defined and believable. The actual conflict in the film is actually a little unique and different from the alien apocalypse we have become accustomed to nowadays. Also, the graphics are of course incredible.

It helped that GotG.2 was being played in Nueplex’s Royal Cinema, which has extremely lush recliners that make it very fun to watch any film. We’d recommend everyone to go watch this one!
