Here’s some exciting news. Although Hamza Ali Abbasi recently revealed to us that he’s pairing up with Sajal Aly for an upcoming TV serial, we now have more details about the project and you’re likely to be surprised when you read what we have to tell you.

The drama is titled Alif and it’s being produced by Samina Humayun Saeed and Sana Shahnawaz’s production house Next Level Entertainment. Alif will be directed by Haseeb Hasan, thus marking the return of the hit trio (Hamza, Haseeb and Next Level Entertainment) that gave us blockbuster hit, Mann Mayal.

This isn’t it, though. We have also found out that Kubra Khan is also a part of the project as one of the lead characters along with quite a few other prominent names who will be seen in the supporting cast. Manzar Sehbai too will be seen in a strong character. The drama serial will not just be shot in Pakistan but also in Turkey.

The script has been written by the very seasoned Umera Ahmed who has previously given hits like Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Sheherezaat, Daam, Meri Zaat Zara-e-Benishan and Doraha.

“It’s a passion project. It has been beautifully written by Umera Ahmed with all her heart. We can’t wait to share it with the world,” producer Sana Shahnawaz said in an exclusive chat with Something Haute. “I always wanted to work with Sajal because she is a fantastic actress. Her role in Alif is tailor-made for her. As for Hamza, we are delighted that he’s always been part of our serials. Kubra again is a brilliant actor and has impressed everyone with her recent performances. And of course, Haseeb is my favourite director.”

Sana also revealed that all the actors will be seen in characters and looks that are very different from their previous works. “I always try to execute fresh ideas and give the audience something they’ve not seen before.”

What’s Alif? We asked her. “Apart from it being the first alphabet, it holds the key to all the mysteries of life. You’ll see how the lives of all the characters are connected with this single alphabet,” Sana replied.

Samina Humayun Saeed too is very excited about the project. “I am super-excited to produce a play written by Umera Ahmed. And really glad to have Hamza and Haseeb working with us again. Together with a stellar cast which includes Sajal and Kubra, we are making every effort to give the audience something they’ve not seen or heard before,” she said, adding that for her maintaining high production quality is essential.

Well, we are certainly looking forward to it! Alif is scheduled to go on air in September this year.
