2019 has been dull so far cinematically as well as musically because local releases were far and few in between the first half of the year. Pakistani films which were released had hardly noticeable music and hence all eyes are now on summer’s big releases this Eidul Fitr. A number of romantic comedies are in the offing (Chhalawa, Wrong No.2, Parey Hut Love, Heer Maan Ja) along with other distinctive genres such as a drama-cum-thriller like Baaji and an action-drama The Legend of Maula Jatt.

The filmi year has just begun in Pakistan and directors are in no mood to slow down. With all these genres, we are sorted for good music as there are songs in the Eid films as well as the upcoming ones that have earned a coveted spot on our playlist. Some are music to the ears (literally), a few are ideal to shake a leg on, while others are merely fun to watch.

We’ve got you covered; here’s a rundown of new songs of the moment and the anticipated ones:

Chhalawa’s title song

Wajahat Rauf’s film — Chhalawa — stars Mehwish Hayat, Zara Noor Abbas, Azfar Rehman and Asad Siddiqui as the lead cast. Now when you hear Mehwish’s name, you definitely expect dance and fun and this one surely appears to be a celebratory tune. This time, Zara and Azfar are also dancing with Mehwish. It’s a wedding song or not, we are not yet sure but you can go and watch the movie to find out.

Chidiya from Chhalawa

songs

It’s nearly impossible to talk about Chhalawa and Mehwish in the same sentence and then ignore the big surprise. Well… this ain’t a surprise anymore. Mehwish has a “performance-based song” in the film titled Chidiya, however, from the glimpse of what we’ve seen in the trailer combined with Mehwish’s bold moves, we know this is going to be a steamy dance number. In a recent interview with Something Haute, Mehwish revealed: “The song is quite similar (to Beedi) as far as the music and beats are concerned but it’s been choreographed by Wahab Shah and choreography wise and shooting wise it is quite different and entertaining.”

Baaji

songs

In an exclusive chat with Something Haute, Saqib Malik has revealed that Baaji will have at least 7 to 8 songs. We’ve so far heard four of them in the trailers (yes, you just have to listen carefully) and two of them have evoked nostalgia. It seems Saqib wants to do justice to the portrayal of Lollywood’s era, hence he has remade classic filmi tunes of the yore and that too in a dramatic fashion.

Ye Aaj Mujhko Kia Hua has been previously picturized on Babra Sharif where as Don’t Be Silly is a famous Runa Laila tune. We also heard a Punjabi song in the background and saw Meera and Osman ballroom dance on Zeb Bangash’s melodious Shaam Nasheeli Hai. But there’s more than what meets the eye; in a recent conversation Osman Khalid Butt has hinted that one song features a superstar in it. Yes, the actor has also choreographed a song in the film which hasn’t been revealed yet. “The one song I have choreographed has two divas in it; one is Meera, the other one I’m not at liberty to say,” Osman said.

Doesn’t it all sound exciting?

Honourable Mention

Parey Hut Love

Parey Hut Love stars Maya Ali in it and we’re sure it will have amazing musical numbers featuring the actress. However, what has got us most excited are the much-anticipated Meera’s shaadi number and Mahira’s performance. So far we only got a sneek peek of Mahira in a motion poster with a sitar playing in the background.
