It’s vibrant, it’s Pakistan-centric and it appears to have a social message relayed in a non-tedious way. Load Wedding, Nabeel Qureshi and Fiza Ali Meerza’s upcoming film starring Fahad Mustafa and Mehwish Hayat in lead roles, looks like a must-watch.

Set in the picturesque Punjab – we see Lahore’s landmarks as backdrop – Load Wedding appears to be the story of a man who desperately wants to get married and Mehwish Hayat as his apparent love interest. There is song and dance, because what Punjabi ( or Pakistani for that matter) wedding would be complete without it; there is also a huge family, tears and laughter and the inevitable – a slap. It’s a relief that it’s the hero getting slapped this time.

There’s also a wedding or two, a funeral, tears but also enough colour and romance to keep things uplifting.

Fahad and Mehwish make a great onscreen couple, as we saw in Actor in Law, and we’re all too happy to see them back together. With Mehwish in the lead, we also know there will be some rebellion and sass along with the trouble. It’s also a relief to see Nabeel Qureshi bringing his film setting back to Pakistan – Na Maloom Afraad 2 wasn’t our favourite – while taking it to Lahore. His other two hits – Na Maloom Afraad and Actor in Law – were very Karachi centric. It’ll be interesting to see how Fahad Mustafa adapts.

“Marriage is an adventure,” it says in the opening frames, “like going to war.”

Load Wedding is slated for an Eid ul Azha release alongside Nadeem Baig’s Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 and possibly Parwaaz Hai Junoon.

Here’s the teaser, which may help you decide which film to watch…
