When Yves Saint Laurent brought out ‘Le Smoking’, a tuxedo-style suit for women that quickly became the epitome of sex appeal and counteracted the corset back in the day, it meant to stand as more than just a party outfit: it was a statement for women.

While the West caught on to gender fluidity and androgyny a while back, we are finally moving in the same direction and have adopted the pant-suit as a much-needed statement for women. ‘Women’s rights’ and ‘female empowerment’ aren’t just words that are being flung around by celebrities who are trying to sound politically sound anymore but have found meaning in the industry today. From Mahira Khan’s speech at PLBW’17 to Urwa Hocane’s statement on the lack of female presence in Na Maloom Afraad 2, our female stars have stopped holding back from saying it as is!

Similarly, power dressing is slowly catching on with local stars, from public appearances to red carpet looks, and we couldn’t be happier!

Meesha Shafi

pant suit

An epitome of girl-power, Meesha Shafi opted for a black tuxedo and Charleston hair at the Q Mobile Hum Style Awards last year, instead of the done-to-death gowns and dresses, and no doubt she stood out from everyone else!

Kiran Malik

Kiran Malik does business-like and sexy all in one with her pastel bustier paired with a smart white suit.

Sadaf Kanwal

pant suit

An open collar to show off those chiseled collar bones, paired with a glitzy choker. Who said suits look boring?

Sania Mirza

pant suit

Sports star Sania Mirza too, has been experimenting with different looks. Striped or metallic? Take your pick!

Sajal Ali

pant suit

One of our favourite looks on Sajal by far! The belted tuxedo jacket looks uber sleek, and is tailored to perfection.

Nausheen Shah

Making a powerful statement doesn’t get more glamorous than this!

Mahira Khan

And of course, always on our radar, Mahira Khan has been playing around with the pantsuit for a while now. From classic black to pastel pink and her recent oversized white number, she has nailed them all!
