As both major festive seasons (Eidul Fitr and Eidul Azha) have passed, the big holiday releases have hit the theaters and won hearts. Though Parey Hut Love, Superstar and Heer Maan Ja are still running successfully in the cinemas, the post-Eid period is relatively lull at the box office as far as new releases are concerned. Luckily this dry spell is about to get over with three Pakistani films which are scheduled to hit the screens in October.

All these projects are directed by first-time directors and feature many new faces in the cast. The projects also offer new genres to the audiences from patriotic theme of star-crossed lovers, romantic drama, horror and crime-thriller.

Durj

Shamoon Abbasi’s directorial venture Durj finally has a confirmed release date and it coincides perfectly with its dark theme; the movie will be released on the 18th of October, when the Halloween mood starts to set in. The film follows the story of a psychotic criminal who partakes in cannibalism, and how his mind operates in a world full of chaos around him. He lives with his love interest, played by Sherry Shah.

What we have seen so far in the trailer, promises a film that hasn’t been made in Pakistan before. With blood, terror and gruesome scenes, we are sure it isn’t made for the faint-hearted. Chillingly, it is based on true events. The movie features Maira Khan, Sherry Shah and Nauman Javaid in important roles alongside Shamoon Abbasi.

Kaaf Kangana

Kaaf Kangana is Khalil ur Rehman Qamar’s debut as a director in films. Well-known for writing the blockbuster Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Khalil has also written the feature film which is an ‘intense but incomplete love story of 1947, awaiting to be completed in 2019’. The film seems to be about a Pakistani Muslim played by Sami Khan who is in love with an Indian Hindu Kangana (played by Eshal Fayyaz). The two are star-crossed lovers, as not only they have different faiths, but they belong to different nations as well.

Kaaf Kangana was supposed to release on Eidul Azha, but after a brief delay, it is all set to hit the theaters on 25th October. Starring Sajid Hassan, Ayesha Omar, Shafqat Cheema and Fiza Ali amongst many others, the film’s trailer reminds us about the Lollywood era. There isn’t much that we were able to decipher from the trailer except the story is heavily based on India and Pakistan’s rivalry; all dialogues refer to that. It also features a dance number by Neelam Muneer.

Daal Chawal

With veteran actors like Salman Shahid and Shafqat Cheema in the cast, alongside newcomers Ahmed Sufiyan and Momina Iqbal, Daal Chawal is a social drama set in the backdrop of urban Lahore. Also directed by a debutant, Awais Khalid, the project is about terrorism, unemployment and political exploitation. The film is slated to release on 4th October.

In case you want to watch something more exciting then Hollywood is offering a mixed platter in the month of October; films like Joker, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and The Addams Family are slated to release soon.
