Already accumulating tremendous buzz as Ali Zafar’s debut Pakistani film, Teefa in Trouble has become all the rage once again with the announcement of Maya Ali as the female lead. However, how did that decision come about? Ace director Ahsan Rahim reveals it all, exclusively to Something Haute!

“We auditioned quite a few actresses for the female lead’s role and while all of them were very talented, Maya completely fit the bill in terms of the age, the personality and the look. The role is about a very contemporary girl, she doesn’t need a man to save her and she’s far from being a damsel-in-distress,” Rahim commented.

Although the actress is just a few dramas old in the industry, her acting aesthetic in both Diyar-e-Dil, Mann Mayal, along with Sanam amongst others, seems to have contributed to her selection as Anya. That said, she has infamously portrayed the exact kind of damsel in distress that Rahim says Anya isn’t. This role then will put Maya Ali in a different space, one that certainly isn’t her comfort zone.

“I’m hoping that the film gives her a chance to do something very different from what she’s done previously on television. Acting abilities aside, screen-presence is either something one has or doesn’t and only the ones who have it stay. Even though Maya hasn’t yet done a film, I think she has it in her and it will translate in the film,” the director added.

With the film already becoming everyone’s center of attention, one has to see how much trouble Teefa’s getting into as Maya and Ali Zafar both debut. For more information, keep checking this space!
