After winning the Bollywood awards circuit and ruling at the box office, Saba Qamar and Irrfan Khan’s Hindi Medium has made it big in China.

According to Indian publications, the film released in China on April 4th and has collected a whopping $3.42 million on its opening day! Hindi Medium, therefore, emerged as the second biggest Bollywood opener in the country after Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar as it earned a total of $9.70 million to date.

Reportedly, China has a quota on the number of overseas movies that can be screened in the country each year. However, Indian films are finding increased presence there.

“Slowly and gradually, Indian films are getting a firm foothold in China,” tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Producer Bhushan Kumar of T-Series also said in a statement, “Hindi Medium is content-driven. There’s a unique twist in this tale.”

A commentary on the socio-economic fabric of the Indian society, Hindi Medium is directed by Saket Chaudhary.
