Acclaimed Hollywood actor/producer and DJ, Idris Elba has been named the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ by American celebrity magazine, PEOPLE. The name was unveiled on the popular NBC show, Tonight with Jimmy Fallon last night.

Idris is known for his powerful performances in Mandela: Long Walk for Freedom, Luther and HBO TV series, The Wire. He is the third man of colour to have won the honour. The British actor is the 33rd man to have won the title. Last year’s title was awarded to popular country music singer, Blake Shelton.

Upon receiving the honour the 46 years old actor said; “I was like, ‘Come on, no way. Really?’ I looked in the mirror, I checked myself out. I was like, ‘Yeah, you are kind of sexy today.’ But to be honest, it was just a nice feeling. It was a nice surprise — an ego boost for sure.”

On Twitter, he wrote that it ‘was an honour for him to have received the title’ and thanked his fans.

“Who’d have thought it! Thank you PEOPLE magazine & all the fans for naming me the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’.”

While on Jimmy’s show the actor also said that his mother will be extremely proud of him for having bagged the achievement.
