With the #MeToo debate taking Hollywood by storm, famous director-writer Woody Allen has spoken in support of the movement and believes he should be its ‘poster boy.’

In an interview with an Argentinian news program, Allen denied all the allegations made against him about sexually abusing his daughter, Dylan Furrow. “Of course not, this is just so crazy,” he said. “This is something that has been thoroughly looked at 25 years ago by all the authorities and everybody came to the conclusion that it was untrue. And that was the end and I’ve gone on with my life. For it to come back now, it’s a terrible thing to accuse a person of. I’m a man with a family and my own children,” Allen stated in the interview.

The story resurfaced after all the allegations were made against Harvey Weinstein by various people in the industry and other noteworthy figures in Hollywood of sexually abusive behavior. It made many actors open up about their horrid experiences and regret over working with Allen, including actors like Greta Gerwig, Colin Firth, and Ellen Page.

However, the 82-year old seems frustrated that his name has been dragged into this along with other people who have been accused of misconduct. He believed that people who have been accused by multiple women shouldn’t be associated with his name as he has only been accused by one woman in a child custody case so, he in no way should be indicated as an important ally.

“As I say, I’m a big advocate of the #MeToo movement,” he said. “I feel when they find people who harass innocent women and men; it’s a good thing that they’re exposing them. But you know I, I should be the poster boy for the #MeToo movement. Because I have worked in movies for 50 years. I’ve worked with hundreds of actresses and not a single one – big ones, famous ones, ones starting out – have ever, ever suggested any kind of impropriety at all. I’ve always had a wonderful record with them.”
