Acclaimed Pakistani director Jami, who’s known for his film Moor, bagged an award at the international Locarno Festival yesterday. The Locarno Festival is an annual film festival held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. It is one of the longest-running film festivals in the world and was founded in 1946.

Two Pakistani producers were selected this year to be part of ‘The Open Doors Lab-TLF’, Jami and Mehnaz Alavi Diwan of Studio Rail Films.

“Thank you so much, this is very surprising because I really wanted to be part of the next session somehow, somewhere with these people, so this is very interesting,” the filmmaker said while accepting the award.

The Open Doors award aims to develop the winner’s contacts at an international level to help initiate commercial aspects of the projects that are in the works. Hence, the program will provide Jami support and assistance for his upcoming projects, which are under the banner of Azad Films. The director is currently working on his film on the 1992 cricket world cup, which he tells us is a big project with a lot of people involved.
