Upcoming drama Alif is one mega project that has been in news a lot lately. Featuring Hamza Ali Abbasi, Sajal Aly, Ahsan Khan, Osman Khalid Butt, Manzar Sehbai and many more, it’s being directed by Haseeb Hasan and produced by Sana Shahnawaz and Samina Humayun Saeed.

Recently, there was buzz that Sanam Baloch had replaced Kubra Khan who — we had earlier reported — was also part of the cast. It all started when Sajal posted a picture of Sanam dressed as Husn e Jahan — the character Kubra is playing in the play, along with hashtag Alif.

Speaking to Something Haute, producer Sana Shahnawaz however said that Kubra was always the first choice for this role and that Sanam was never signed for the project. “Kubra was our first choice. We never cancelled our commitment. It was just that our shooting was scheduled in August and September while Kubra was busy with her movies at that time,” she said. “Fortunately, Alif’s schedule got postponed and now we are shooting in October and November. We took to this opportunity to rope Kubra back in the project. The role was tailor-made for Kubra Khan,” she added.

Commenting on the rumours about Sanam being part of Alif, Sana said, “We only did a single look test with Sanam. We were in discussions but it didn’t work out and as a producer I never announced that she was on board,” she added.

The play is penned by seasoned writer Umera Ahmed, who has previously given hits like Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Sheherezaat, Daam, Meri Zaat Zara-e-Benishan and Doraha and is expected to go on air this year.
