Pakistani filmmakers are enjoying a good spell at Festival de Cannes this year. First Iram Parveen Bilal was seen at the Cannes Cinéfondation Atelier program. Her project Wakhri was one of the 15 projects presented at the Cannes L’Atelier co-production meeting. Now GrayScale Production has announced that their short film Rani, which has already been making waves at various international platforms, will also been screened at the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival.

GrayScale Production shared the news on Facebook and wrote, “Rani has been selected by the London Film Academy to be part of a special showcase of films, at the Short Film Corner of the Festival de Cannes! The Short Film Corner runs from May 20th till May 25th, at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival.”

Written and directed by Hammad Rizvi, Rani stars Kami Sid — a Pakistani transgender model and activist– who plays a toy vendor who decides to adopt an abandoned child. The film has already bagged awards from international festivals like the Special Jury Award for Impact at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival 2019 and the Best Narrative Short Award at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival in March amongst many others.
