Fashion has undoubtedly become one of Pakistan’s most significant identities worldwide. Whether it is Berlin or Los Angeles, fashion designers have taken it upon themselves to project an image that Pakistani fashion once could only crave for. Drawing inspiration from music, art, film and even history to put forth truly unique ensembles, when couturiers become part of a cultural exchange, they create magic that is spoken about and revered. Giving us exactly this kind of experience is what Kamiar Rokni and Zonia Anwaar are doing in Prague currently.

With an aim to promote the business of Pakistani fashion, the High Commission of Pakistan in Prague has collaborated with the House of Kamiar Rokni and Zonia Anwaar to bring forth the best of Pakistan’s craft.

Amidst our excitement and general anticipation, we got in touch with Kamiar who is, without doubt, a fashion genius. While walking through the streets of Prague, he graciously admitted,

“The House of Kamiar Rokni is extremely proud to be representing Pakistani fashion at a show celebrating the 70th anniversary of Pakistan arranged by our embassy here. As a design house we are all about cultural diversity and our inspiration is the whole world so to be in this beautiful city and to see our clothes in a new context is very exciting”

Apart from Kamiar, fashionistas in Prague will also have a chance to see work done by the Zonia Anwaar  – a fresh new addition to the fashion scene. This Lahore based designer who was previously chosen to represent Pakistan at the prestigious Woolmark has designed collections that were well received and defy her experience and age.

“In the current global scenario, it’s crucial for us to represent a softer image of Pakistan,” Zonia spoke to us. “I feel it’s a fantastic effort by The Pakistan High Commission in the Czech Republic for giving me an opportunity to represent Pakistani fashion to the western world. It is such an honour for me to be able to represent my country Pakistan at different platforms abroad and this is a fantastic opportunity.”

Talking about what one could expect from her she added, “I am putting together some traditional embroidery amalgamated with our timeless traditional silhouettes in a contemporary way to give it a fusion vibe. Our handwork and craftsmanship are appreciated all around the world and to have a taste of Pakistan’s ethnicity in a modern attire is always a treat at international showcases for the audience.”
