Filmmaker and host Karan Johar has finally broken his silence on the controversy surrounding sexist and racist comments made by Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul  on his chat show Koffee with Karan. KJo has apologized by admitting that the conversation ‘may have crossed boundaries’.

After the fiasco, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended the players and sent them back from Australia, where they were playing a series against Australia. Though many on social media spoke out against the cricketers’ misogynistic remarks, there are many who felt that it was Karan Johar’s responsibility as it is his show and he was asking such contentious questions.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos recently, Karan said that he had sleepless nights wondering how he could undo the damage.

“I have to say that I feel very responsible because it was my show, it was my platform. I invited them as guests and so the ramifications and repercussion of the show are my responsibility,” he said adding, “I’m not justifying the conversation that happened on the show. I think perhaps things were said that have crossed boundaries, and I apologise because it was my platform where it happened. I feel the boys have paid the price for it already.”

Karan also explained that Koffee with Karan is entirely run by women but post the show nobody from his team came up and told him that ‘this was inappropriate’. He also said that he regrets what has happened to the two cricketers.

“And then there was talk about me actually enjoying the TRP. I don’t care about the TRPs. This is a spin-off… It’s not my career, it’s theirs. I don’t care about the ratings. People don’t understand that an English language show is never dependent on its ratings. We are nowhere  in the radar of ratings,” he said.
